This handscroll is a segment of a collection of poems by Emperor Fushimi (1265-1317). Known as the Hirosawa edition, the anthology consists of seventy-four poems—sixty-six on the theme of spring and eight on autumn. In addition to several revisions and deletions by the emperor, annotations for the poetic category can be found at the beginning of the poems. On its reverse side are an almanac from 1305 (Kagen 3), letters of requests for official rank from Abe Munemitsu (n.d.) and Fujiwara Arikiyo (n.d.), and other manuscripts that make this an important handscroll in studying the development and provenance of the Hirosawa edition, which was originally handed down in the Hachisuka clan of Awa Province (now, Tokushima Prefecture).
