Shibi are a pair of L-shaped ornamental tiles set at both ends of the ridgepole of big buildings.  Those from the Main Hall (J., Kondo) of Toshodai-ji Temple in Nara City are well-known. These fragments might have been part of the shibi on the Chodo-in or Buraku-in building of the Heian-kyo palace. One fragment, with a pattern of scales, is from the shibi’s rim, and the other, with an arabesque pattern, is from its side.  The shibi were glazed with ryokuyu (a type of glaze which contains lead and turns green when fired at low temperatures).
