The three-dimensional earthenware of these unfired clay animals began to be produced from the late phase of the Middle Jomon period. Clam figures were the second most produced figures after wild boar figures. For snail clay figures like this one, more than one figure has been found across the Tohoku region in the Late Jomon period. \nThis specimen is a figure in the shape of a snail that lives in a rocky beach and serves as a vessel with a spout mouth (in the mouth of the snail). In addition to the nice outer shape of the snail, this specimen nicely incorporates the patterns of the lump-attached earthenware of the same period, such as the spiral pattern created by clay cords and a piercing pattern on pasted lumps. It fully demonstrates the molding capability of the Jomon people. Moreover, the red color painted over the inside and outside surfaces of the snail suggests that this served not only as an outstandingly creative container, but also as an object used in rituals. 토제품으로, 껍데기 입구를 귀때로 삼은 용기로서의 기능을 갖추고 있다. 고둥 외형을 능숙하게 조형하였으며, 같은 시기에 제작된 혹 달린 토기의 무늬를 기교 있게 살리고 있다. 점토 띠로 나선 무늬를, 혹을 붙여 가시를 표현하고 있어 조몬 사람들의 조형 기술이 유감없이 발휘된 토제품이라고 할 수 있다. 또한, 내외면에 채색된 붉은색 칠은 이 작품이 조형 기술이 결집된 용기로서뿐만 아니라 의례적인 측면도 겸비하고 있었다는 사실을 잘 드러내고 있는
