This is a small screen composed of eight pictures, each of which depicts annual events of each social stratum ranging from court noble to general public. It follows the tradition of the picture of twelve months, a classic Japanese painting genre that was popular in the Heian period, but a strong focus is placed upon depicting how people work and play around, which indicates a trend leading to the formation of the genre picture of the beginning of the modern age.
