Yoshifusa was a sword maker of the Fukuoka Ichimonji school in Bizen Province (present-day southeastern Okayama Prefecture) and was active in the middle of the Kamakura period (1185-1333) together with Sukezane and Norifusa. This tachi has a rather pronounced curve and a wide blade and is considered to display the greatest artistry of all Yoshifusa's works.
This sword bears the name "Okada Slayer" (J. Okadagiri) because the warrior Oda Nobukatsu (1558-1630) used it to kill his retainer Okada Sukesaburô Shigotaka at the Battle of Komaki Nagakute in Tenshô 12 (1584).
