Tachihara Kyousho (1786–1840) is the son of Tachihara Suiken who was a Confucian scholar in Mito-han. He learned painting from Hayashi Jikkō first, but he joined Tani Bunchō's group after he moved to Edo. Although his style is generally scrupulous and calm, he exhibits a touch rather bold and unfettered, which is unusual for him, in this piece he painted when he was intoxicated.
