This handscroll is a codex of Godanjo (Excerpts of Talks with Oe no Masafusa), a record of talks by the courtier Oe no Masafusa (1041-1111) that was compiled by Fujiwara Sanekane (1085-1112). Details such as the calligraphic style suggest that this manuscript, which was preserved at Kosan-ji Temple in Kyoto, was transcribed around the early Kamakura period (1185-1333).
