This manuscript lacks a postscript, however, the round red seal of Ganko-ji Temple on its cover and joints reveal its provenance. Thus, it is commonly known as the “Ganko-ji Sutra.” It may have compiled as part of a set of the entire compendium of Buddhist sutras, dated the fifteenth day of the third month of 740 (Tenpyo 12) and donated by Lady Fujiwara, the daughter of Fujiwara Fusasaki (681-737) of the northern branch of the Fujiwara clan for the repose of her father Fusasaki who died in 737 (Tenpyo 9) and for the imperial princesses.
