This is the oldest existing copy of the Buddhist collection of tales (J., setsuwa) Uchigikishu. Originally composed of two or three accordion books, today only this one volume remains. The signature on the cover, Eigen, may have been the owner and transcriber of the books. The date of transcription is thought to be around 1134 (Chosho 3), the year recorded on the back of this manuscript, which mostly concerns matters related to Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei in Kyoto.
