Kakiyū is a kind of tetsuyū (iron-glazing), which has a persimmon-colored film developed on the surface. Two tree peony flowers are painted in gold leaf on the deep-brown glaze of this kakiyū bowl. Among the celebrated "Ding bowls of gold-flower," this one has the best-preserved gold leafed motif. There is a silver-paint band around the rim, which is also a rarely-seen feature. It is attributed to have been found in Yulin, in the northern Shaanxi province in China.
