This is a letter Kidochigu (1185 to 1269) wrote to Goo Zenji, but nothing is known about Goo Zenji.
Kidochigu was born in Shimeishyozan and entered the Buddhist priesthood at the age of 16 under Shiun of Fumyoji Temple. In 1229, he first became the chief priest of Koshoji Temple and then of the famous temples of Io, Jinzu and Kinzan. He was a high priest who led Emperors Riso and Takuso of the Song Dynasty to embrace Buddhism. One of his disciples was Nanbo Jomyo (Daiokokushi, 1235 to 1308), the master of Shuho Myocho (Daitokokushi, 1282 to1337).
The letter prays for Goo Zenji's happy religious life while thanking for his sympathy and tells that a person called "Min Chikyaku" is coming to visit him. This Min Chikyaku is believed to be Nanbo Jomyo, who went to China during the Song period in 1259 and came back to Japan in 1267.
