This large measuring container (ōmasu) was originally part of a set together with the 1.8 liter measuring-containers (1 sho masu) N124-N128, which were owned by Hōryuji temple. It is made of cedar wood and of the type called takebuse-masu (bamboo-covered masu) because of the bamboo material coating its square rim. The capacity is 5 sho 2 go and 8 shaku (9.521 liters), about five-times as large as the other 1 sho masu and this piece was probably made as a 5 sho masu. It has no inscriptions, but is thought to have been made in the Muromachi period.
