It is said that Kuniyasu was a swordsmith in Obi, Hyuga no Kuni and a disciple of Horikawa Kunihiro and that they together used to live in Ichijohorikawa, Kyoto. The shape of the wide blade with a shallow curve and an extended kissaki (the tip of the blade) demonstrates a form typical of swords in the early Edo period. The jigane (ground metal) has a wood grain pattern with jinie (small martensite crystals in the ground) and chikei (curved lines made of martensite crystals in the ground) while the hamon (blade pattern) shows a combination of notareba and gunomeba patterns. His style is similar to that of Horikawa Kunihiro.
