This is an anthology of Chinese and Japanese poems and writings compiled by Fujiwara no Mototoshi (? –1142) in the form after that of `Wakan Roeishu'.
There are not many transcriptions of `Shinsen Roeishu', and this is a rare complete set of the transcription in two volumes created in the Kamakura period. This set comprises 78 pages (written in sumi) of press-ruled hishi paper bound in tetsuyoso style. The text has reading marks in red and black sumi. The postscript says that both transcription and reading marks were written by Fujiwara no Teika and that the reading marks had been given from Mototoshi, the selector and complier of this anthology, to his disciple, Toshinari (Teika's father). This was designated an important cultural property on June 22, 1971.
