`Honchomonzui' is a collection of 427 poems and writings in classical Chinese style compiled by Fujiwara no Akihira (989?–1066). Fujiwara no Akihira also compiled `Unshushosoku' and was appointed Daigakunokami (the head of educational department) during the reign of Emperor Goreizei. This 13th volume contains letters of request, which served as a useful reference. While this volume lacks part of the beginning, it is transcribed entirely by one person. According to the postscript, the transcription was made on June 28, 1299, at Suirakuden. The kana in sumi, reading marks, tone marks, and collation notes are written in the text, which seem to have been added around the same time as the transcription, providing valuable information regarding the reading method of classical Chinese-style documents in the Kamakura period.
