This prayer comes from a portion of the Most Victorious Kings Sutra (J., Saishookyo) in Gold Lettering on Indigo Paper, Volume 10, which was copied and donated by Emperor Fushimi (1265-1317) during a visit with his son Emperor Gofushimi to Ishishimizu Hachiman Shrine in the second month of 1313 (Showa 2). Consisting of 115 lines, this lengthy prayer cites Chinese historical events and tradition throughout. This masterpiece exhibits the expansive knowledge of the emperor and his elegant and magnanimous brushwork, which is based on classical styles.
