Umajirushi comprising a flag or three-dimensional objects and a long pole was used to identify the location of an important military commander on the battle field. This one has a downward trumpet shape made of paper, over which dry lacquer and gold leaf are applied. This is an umajirushi of the Sakakibara family known as the kikyo style due to its shape like an upside-down balloon flower.
