In Kansei 12 (1800), Inō Tadataka measured the eastern Ezo area (mainly the Pacific coast area of Hokkaido) and Ōshū Dōchū (route) for the first time and made these survey maps. Tokyo National Museum calls them Ezo-chi Jissoku -zu (the surveyed maps of the Ezo area). This map is thought to preserve the original form when it was submitted to the Shogunate. They are the folding type, with the title written with sumi on the cover page section. The titles have a certain format—Ezo area, map one: from Shiriuchi to Yamakoshinai for example. The shintotsu method (Ino's original method of copying maps) was not used for these maps. Inō made two versions: large (1: 43636 scale) and small (1: 436360) ones. The large version lacks part of the Ezo area from Shiraoi to Hirou, the Ōshū map does not have the area that could have been covered by ten maps, from Asakusa to Tsugaru Tairadate. There is a red seal on them that reads "Asakusa Bunko" (Asakusa library).
