This document issued in 850 (Kajô 3) by the Ministry of Civil Administration (J. jibushô) announces the appointment of Enchin to the position of attendant monk (J. naigubu) at the imperial court. At that time, Enchin asked Fujiwara Yoshifusa, the Great Minister of the Right (J. udaijin), to have it written by a skilled scribe. It is said that when Enchin later showed this document to officials in China during his trip, they admired it greatly and some even copied it.
